Eighteenth Century Textiles

Light refreshments provided

Saturday 24th June 2017

10am – 3pm

From 'bizarre' designs woven in silk to scenic prints and charming chintzes, eighteenth century textiles tell stories of merchant adventurers, visual literacy and enterprising individuals. Join us as we study the dazzling cloths for aristocrats and lively cottons for the emerging middle classes. In this age of enlightenment, new encyclopaedias and other publications spread information about the means of making, which are discussed in the afternoon textile study session.

Day includes: two talks and two study sessions of original textiles

Limited to 8 spaces
